Submission GuidelinesMaterial on any gothic/horror/occult topic is what NOX is looking for. (Vampires are a high preference!) In order to keep affiliate banners on the site, stories that contain sex, S&M, etc. ARE allowed, however, the words that are used can not be overly descriptive. Spelling, punctuation and grammar will be corrected if necessary. Other than that, content is not edited. Please submit your work via e-mail only. The exception is for people who want to send artwork but don't have a scanner, and for people sending CDs, audio and video cassettes, and books for review. Please e-mail me for a mailing address in those instances. Fiction/Articles/Essays - Stories can be no longer than 2,500 words. If you can cut and paste your story directly into an e-mail, I would prefer that over attaching a file. If you do send an attachment, it must be a Word file or a TEXT file. In addition to fiction, I would like to receive non-fiction articles and essays on topics such as real-life encounters with vampires, ghosts, psychic phenomena, or on any related topic of a dark nature. If you can send small illustrations or photos to accompany written work, it would also be helpful, but it is not necessary. Put your name (or pen name) and e-mail address at the top of your story, and include the year in which the piece was written. If the piece was published previously, include the name of the publication as well as the date it was published. If this is a multiple submission, please let me know about it. Also specify at the top of the page whether your story is fiction or non-fiction. (Considering the nature of the non-fiction articles I receive, it's possible I will mistake a story for fiction if not told otherwise.) Poetry - The minimum requirement for submitting poetry is: 2 short poems; 1 long poem; or 1 short poem and one small piece of artwork. You are welcome to submit more. Please submit your poetry the way you wish it to appear laid out on the page. However, the exact formating will only be retained if you send me a WORD file. The fonts you use will not matter. I will only use Ariel and Times New Roman on this site to ensure that everyone can read it. I will retain any bolding or italicizing you put in your poems. The file format requirements are the same as for fiction and articles, except there is no word limit on poetry (I don't expect anything to be as long as a story). Art - Art can be color or black & white, and it can be paintings, drawings or photographs. However, color is highly preferable. If you are sending your art via e-mail, please send either a JPEG or GIF file. If you are sending it via snail mail for me to scan, it can be no larger than 11x14". Small illustrations for use as filler are great also! When sending via e-mail, please include your full name, or the pseudonym you would like to use, the title of the artwork (if there is one), the year it was created, and if it has been published anywhere else (include the date of publication and publication name). If you are sending it via snail mail, include the same information but put it on the reverse side of the artwork along with your name, address and email address. Use cardboard when mailing to prevent bending. Reviews - Book reviews and reviews of recorded or live music may be submitted. Reviews should be no more than 500 words in length. CDs and cassettes from bands - I really need some new musical submissions. I haven't received much lately. Also, to all the bands who sent me their work in the past, if you have something new, I'd love to hear it. Please send as much information as possible with the CD or cassette. If the names of the band members and instruments they play are not on the CD or cassette case, please make sure this info is included in your letter. A bio and photo of the band or solo performer would also be greatly appreciated. I will also review MP3s as long as the band submitting them has an established web site. E-mail me for my mailing address. Advertisements - I am not accepting any advertisements. However, I will do a link or banner exchange with anyone who asks, and put those links and banners on the links page. If you have mailed your submission and wish it to be returned, please remember to include a Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope with the appropriate postage. Also, if you have any questions when writing via snail mail, don't forget to include a SASE or your e-mail address. Nox does not pay it's contributors, however, we receive an average of 300 hits per month, and the number is growing rapidly as we are added to more search engines and lists. This is a lot more exposure than the print version of Nox ever had! All rights revert back to the author/artist upon publication. You will be notified via e-mail if your submission will be used. |
